8.0 Bridge Numbers
All numbers in your personal Numerology chart, no matter where they are found or what part of you they affect, have two functions: to help you recognize who you are and what you are made of, and to let you know what you need to complete yourself and become the most you can be. It's not just a matter of strengths and weaknesses, but a blueprint and a roadmap of your life and its potential, in all its nuances.
Obviously, knowing your strengths and your talents is a big help when it comes to finding your way in life: choosing the right career, the things that make you happy, and so forth. Being aware of your weaknesses is an equally powerful asset, because they tell you what to avoid and how to not waste your time. If you recognize that you don't have an ear for music, you probably won't bother devoting years to piano lessons.
The concept behind Bridge Numbers is simple: find the difference between two numbers and you find the bridge that crosses the divide between them.
Bridge numbers are arrived at by subtracting the smaller from the larger core number.
A person with a Name (Expression) number of 7 and a Life Path number of 1, has a Bridge number of 6.
If that person has a Personality number of 8, we find two more Bridge numbers, namely 1(between the Expression and the Personality), and 7 (between the Personality and Life Path).
When we find the Bridge numbers, we criss-cross between all core numbers (all Master numbers among the core numbers are reduced to single digits).
Let us look at a person with a Life Path number of 1, a Birth day number of 6, an Expression number of 7, a Heart's Desire number of 4, and a Personality number of 8.
The following will be the Bridge Numbers:
1 : (Expression(7) minus Birth day(6) and Personality(8) minus Expression(7))
2 : (Birth day(6) minus Heart's Desire(4) and Personality(8) minus Birth day(6))
3 : (Heart's Desire((4) minus Life Path(1) and Expression(7) minus Heart's Desire(4))
4 : (Personality(8) minus Heart's Desire(4))
5 : (Birth Day(6) minus Life Path(1))
6 : (Expression(7) minus Life Path(1))
7 : (Personality(8) minus Life Path(1))
The more important Bridge Numbers are those that close the gaps between the Life Path and Expression, between the Heart's Desire and Personality, and between the Heart's Desire and Expression. In the example, this would be 6, 4 and 3.
This is an area where we can find a Bridge number of 0.
The Bridge number 9 is never found becasue the largest difference between two single digits is 8 (9-1).
The bridge numbers show how you can make the core numbers in your chart relate more with each other. This number answers the 'whom' in you. The Bridge Number helps you understand yourself and close the gap with the path you are taking in your life. It helps you change the factors that are stopping you from leading a happy and prosperous life. It gives you an idea about what you really are and what you are trying to become.
Bridge number helps you in distinguishing the Knots. It is like the concrete bridges which we see in the city thoroughfare. As the bridge starts from one road crossing and ends at the other, similarly the Bridge Numbers help you in overcoming obstacles and choosing the right path to move on in life. Thus, the bridge numbers in your chart are the numbers which indicate how you can make a relationship between the individual core numbers in your chart easier and more compatible. Bridge Numbers have the potential to narrow down the gap between the Life path and the Expression Number.
In order to make your talents and abilities (Expression Number) easily available to your main lesson and expected direction of growth (Life Path Number), you will want to bridge the gap between these two aspects of your being. This is calculated for a person by subtracting the life path number from the expression number or vice versa.
Example Situation
A person has a Heart's Desire number of 7 and an Expression number of 4. Therefore, the Expression-Heart's Desire Bridge number is 3.
A 4 Expression is detail oriented, highly disciplined, practical and well organized, but also boring and routine-addicted. Since the Expression number is usually the first (but by no means the only) number we look at for insight in determining a suitable career, the person in this example would be good as a bank officer, an accountant, a construction supervisor, a police man, and a bunch of other professions requiring the attributes of a 4.
However, the aforementioned individual also has a 7 Heart's Desire, which tells us that he avoids crowds, preferring peace and quiet. He likes to read and study, doesn't take anything at face value, has a sharp, probably sarcastic sense of humor, doesn't play well with others, and finds great satisfaction in exploring unfamiliar territory, whether physical or intellectual.
Aware of this hodgepodge of traits from the 4 and the 7, it makes sense that this person would be happier as an accountant (just him and his desk and computer), than a bank teller (interacting with strangers all day). That he would be a happier police man in an administrative or detecting position, instead of walking a beat (again -- too many people around).
Unfortunately, those somewhat discordant qualities between the 4 and the 7 limit his options, and that's never a good thing. So let's see how the Bridge number can help expand his potential.
A 3 Bridge number means that training/improving/strengthening the qualities inherent to the number 3 would be tremendously helpful in smoothing his path, and vastly expand his potential. The advice therefore is simple: loosen up, be more creative, and start communicating.
This sounds easier said than done. Yet, looking at the simplicity of it when put in the context of Bridge numbers, it might just be enough to inspire this solitary, somewhat boring person to do just that, to take him/herself less seriously. Maybe even make an impulsive decision every once in a while.
The secret is in your perception. Bridge numbers showing you the different attributes of two aspects of your character, and the specific qualities needed to cover the divide, is a whole different picture. One that can actually be quite inspiring.
Also interesting about Bridge numbers is the fact that the basic concept applies pretty much anywhere two numbers share the same environment. Want to understand how the demands of your Life Path number can be helped along with the help of your Birth Day number? Find their Bridge Number. Or perhaps you would like to know how to get your Heart's Desire more in line with your Hidden Passion. Think Bridge Number.
They also have a spiritual use. You are seeking enlightenment? Cross the divide inside of you -- between your mind and your soul. The word "mind" adds up to 22, which reduces to 4. The word "soul" adds to 13, which also reduces to 4. Interesting, no? Symbolically speaking, the Bridge between your mind and your soul is 0 (zero).
In summary, the Bridge numbers indicate how you can make the relationship between the individual core numbers in your chart easier and more compatible. They are not considered shortcomings, but areas that, when improved upon, make you less inhibited and self-conscious.
Becoming more yourself is a matter of laying bridges between the different core numbers: those parts of your personality that are strongly represented in your chart.
In order to make your talents and abilites (Expression Number) easily available to your main lesson and expected direction of growth (Life Path Number), you want to bridge the gap between these two aspects of your being.
You will be more comfortable with yourself when your outer personality (Personality Number) merges with your inner needs and desires (Heart's Desire Number). Merging the core numbers results in becoming whole.
Bridge Number Meanings
Bridge Number 0
A 0 Bridge number indicates that you have at least two core numbers alike.
This is considered fortunate, and an opportunity to make real progress in the areas of life expressed by the repeated number.
For example, if you have a 7 Life Path and a 7 Expression, intellectual and spiritual growth are particularily strong in your chart.
However, if you have three or more indentical core numbers, the balance may be off. Three 7's for instance, will make a person withdrawn and solitary, someone who has difficulty accepting his feelings or those of others.
The challenge here is to find balance. If you have three or more identical core numbers, study the meaning of this number and ask yourself if you are excessive in its characteristics(this may cause you to push the aspects of the repeated number to excess) or-and this is quite common-if you have turned away from this number completely.
The worst possible scenario is of a single number dominating the chart(for example, when 40% or more of the letters in a name represent the same number) so that the person absorbs all the negative aspects of the number. You need to work at embracing the neglected characteristics, or in the extreme, even to consider a name change.
Bridge Number 1
You should rely more on your own strengths and abilities. Be more decisive; don't beat around the bush and be straightforward when expressing your thoughts and feelings. You need to take charge more often. Get off the beaten path and find original ways of doing things. Do not try to be conventional, or try so hard to behave according to the expectations of others.
Bridge Number 2
Be more sensitive to the needs and expectations of others. Do not rock the boat too often, but keep the peace and try to make things run smoothly. You have to use your ability to influence others with gentle diplomacy, instead of confrontations. Be more cooperative.
Bridge Number 3
Loosen up a bit. Have some fun; recharge your batteries. Be more generous to yourself. Communicate your deeper feelings without fear to those close to you. Be more creative, particularly in the areas of dancing, writing, acting, or poetry. Develop faith in yourself.
Bridge Number 4
Avoid procrastination. Try to be more reliable and punctual. Be practical, methodical, and systematic in your endeavors. Keep track of details; avoid chaos. Work on the basics of life. Physical and outdoor activities bring you closer to yourself, so get out in nature, work in the garden, or build a fence.
Bridge Number 5
Only the combinations 6 and 1, 7 and 2, 8 and 3, and 9 and 4 can cause this Bridge number to appear in your chart. The need to be more flexible and adaptable is required in all cases. Be willing to go out on a limb; be adventurous and unconventional. However, the combinations indicate rather different requirements, and are therefore listed separately.
6 minus 1
Try to find a balance between the extremes of self-sacrifice and of selfish behavior. Sometimes you take your duties and responsibilities too seriously; other times you turn away from them. Co-dependence may be a problem for you. Be more independent.
7 minus 2
This combination is paradoxical: At the same time it is both disharmonious and potentially gifted. You are sensitive and in need of love and attention, while also very private and inwardly focused. This creates a certain amount of inner conflict. You have a tendency for self-pity, and you tend to withdraw as soon as a relationship shows the slightest bit of turmoil. You take criticism too personal. The high potential comes from the combination of analytical power (7) and intuition (2) represented here.
8 minus 3
The combination of business-minded, goal-oriented, determined, and visionary eight, and the playful, creative, outgoing, and happy-go-lucky three is unstable.
Your strength lies in using your creative talents in a business-oriented manner. Your weakness is your tendency to suppress your creativity in favor of career and business. This can make you overly cautious and slow to make decisions.
Bridge Number 6
This bridge can only be built through service, more involvement with family and community affairs, and a greater sense of responsibility. You should also allow your creativity to flow more freely.
This bridge number results from the combinations 7 and 1, 8 and 2, or 9 and 3.
7 minus 1
The 7 and 1 mixture is generally harmonious, but the above mentioned advice is directed to this combination as well. This combination often creates eccentrics - people who are highly inventive and unconventional.
8 minus 2
The 8 and 2 cause similar struggles, but are often recognizable in broken romantic relationships caused in part by over-sensitivity, criticism, a tendency to gossip, and large fluctuations in financial matters. The positive side of this combination is your innate ability to negotiate. Your are both the leader and the diplomat.
9 minus 3
This is a very creative combination. You are an artist at heart, and you must live according to that. The difficulty here is in the suppression of talents, and the lack of serious application. The bright side reveals a true gift to inspire and motivate large groups of people.
Bridge Number 7
Coming from either 8 and 1, or 9 and 2, this number urges you to spend more time and effort on spiritual matters.
8 minus 1
The 8 minus 1 combination causes a person to become too interested material matters. Excessive attachement to money, goods and staus quo can make you vulnerable to tmepations of the material world.
9 minus 2
The 9 minus 2 combination is subtle. The tempation to think that you are spending so much time and effort on the well being of mankind that you are on your way to sainthood is very strong, and potentially self-deluding.
Rigtheousness, no matter who you are and what you have accomplished, is always an obstacle; it brings prejudice, arrogance and indifference.
There are two challenges here that might be particularily problematic for you: the need to be more humble, and the responsibilities you have to yourself. Saving yourself is a life time job.
Bridge Number 8
This number can only result from the combination 9 minus 1, and the important theme here is understanding the function of money. Money is a tool for trading, no more and no less. This combination of numbers suggests an idealist. Sometimes the idealism is taken too far and becomes impractical. This is often expressed in a dislike for money.
However, occasionally, the 1 dominates the 9 to such an extent that the person becomes obsessed with personal success. More often though, the 9 and the 1 together reveal the very ambitious humanitarian who has the potential to do very well in the corporate world, or any career that offers international connections and activities.
